Richard mate stop tring to deffend yourself, you don't have to, i have attended a lot of your gigs, all were good, most really busy and how many times can you hear "Tell Me What The Child Needs" or "Circles" don't get me wrong they are still floor filler tunes, but variety is the spice of life isn't it, so 399 happy punters and 1 pissed of punter, sounds like a good night to me, i was at the Ministry Of Sound on a friday night a few months back, for a so called Soul event, they had 80 punters there, so stop worring mate, keep doing what you are doing, a lot of so called Soul Nights thease days are poorly attendended, mine included, 2 years ago our night was 350 even 450 some times, no we are lucky to have 200, so if you can get 400 people in a club you are doing well mate, you won't get 400 soul punters in a club any more,the Lacy Lady is always packed, but how many of those are true soul punters there for the music ???? but if the night is busy, then the club is happy, the promoter is happy, and the punters are happy, so if some one downs your gig on a public forum, be like me, calm.....respectfull....nice....then tell to FUCK OFF.

Like Bob says the flier clearly says what the night was about and as Bob says you lot have been spoilt up there by Richard with the amount of freebies he has put on and the quality of the line ups each time! All we read on here is people moaning about gigs and the " same ole , same ole " music. Theres more to life than Good ole Caister line dancing classics that are played at most events these days because the jocks are to scared to come out of the comfort zone and are afraid of loosing the floor. Richard has given so many jocks work up there in Yarmouth including me. So far Yarmy girl your the only one publicly moaning about the music out of 400 punters.........Like Bob says without Richard all you lot up there would have is pop R&B and Caister twice a year! To be honest after being asked for tracks at certain yarmouth gigs most are for old cheese from punters that go out once every six months if they are lucky... Richard stick to what you are doing and "keep the faith"

What puzzles me is the Youngsters with their "Rave" music comment.. Judging by the flyer the tunes were pre 1990 and to be into that scene you must have been late teens early 20's. That's still 20 odd years ago making this new crowd in they're early 40's! Hardly youngsters.How old are these Yarmy "girls". Perhaps you should knock the parties on the head Rich and start up afternoon Tea dances.. A bit of Mantovani, some Ted Heath band. Forget exstacy bring on the Santogen Wine

Brian Mac at 18:10:18 Friday August 29 2008Spot on Bob and Tony .. after the first 'complaint' Richard quite clearly explained and gave his number offering a 'one to one' chat .. to come back here stirring it further makes it very unlikely that the poster is a loyal Richards Parties attendee, or would be missed .. those of us from further down South know what a genuine guy Richard is and the unselfish efforts he makes to provide his punters .. fairly demonstrated by the attendance and travel made for his 25th Anniversary doo .. we all know (at least the sensible ones) that the gig in question was not mis-sold in it's advertising .. true, I was down this end at a gig but no criticism against Richard really has any merit .. does it ?

are the rumors correct, that Soul in the City have lost their venue?..........It seems the owner has taken the clubaback from the lease holder and sripped it from what we have been told, but its no big deal, we will not have a SOUL IN THE CITY in sept as we are in spain on the 3rd sat @ MED SOUL on the 3rd sat, but we are back in october with a new club, or CLUB LUCA if the sort it, you will get a grubby flyer about it no dought.

I saw this article in yesterdays Evening Standard and hope it does not affect anyone's club nights. Shame if a few clubs stop others from having a good club night. Lynn xx Clubbers face last dance under new regime in the City ..........A clampdown on clubbing in the Square Mile is being planned by council bosses. The City of London Corporation is proposing to alter its licensing policy to make it more difficult for venues to allow music and dancing after 11pm. It wants to ban all "promoted events" - where a DJ is hired for the niht - that do not have the express permission of the local police commissioner. The corporation is concerned that following the relaxation of licensing laws in 2005 the number of venues open after 2am has risen from 11 to 64. It says this has led to an increase in noise, drunkeness and anti- social behaviour and it has made tackling late-night nuisance a priority. Forcing venues to persuade senior police officers to voice their support will make it harder to secure a licence, and experts say there will be inevitably fewer club nights in the city as a result. A council consultation document says the new rules have been drawn up "with a view to restricting" music and dancing and blames the popularity of special club and DJ nights for contributing "significantly to a rise in crime and disorder and ati-social behaviour" But the manager of Clerkenwell House, Dan Mbaye, said the move would cripple his business, which hosts regular DJ nights. He said " Our main night is our Saturday night. Without it we could close. "I make every effort to ensure our guests leave quietly, I even hand out sweets when people leave so they don't open their mouths and talk" Bryn Alridge, from the City's environmental services department, said the corporation wanted to hear peoples views, saying: We're not killjoys, because we all appreciate the importance of a vibrant night-time economy. However, if high spirits turn into anti-social behaviour and a nuisance for our residents, we'll take action." "Residents and businesses have until 29th of September to send us ther comments. We'll take those views into careful consideration."

I don,t want to enter into a debate about sat,but here are a few facts. no1 We made no bones about the music on offer,it said on the ticket up to 1988 and what the music was and we had Tony Fernandez on the decks playing the tunes you like. no2The people you might have seen going out the door were not all going but having a fag and a bit of air. no3 It was not our fault Fritton did not put in for the licience on time,we went on facebook and asked people if they wanted the gig to go ahead and most said yes.We only went to the Residence because it was the only venue available on short notice on a bank holiday (god did we try for somewhere else.) no4 I think you will find £5 is cheap to get in anywhere these days and i,m sorry you did not like it, I tried to do something a bit differant, spice it up if you like,to be fair a lot of my parties have been FREE lately so I think your being a bit unfair. no5 We will not be mixing up the music again (so you could not have read my last posting properly )I don,t want to kill what I alreay have so you points have been taken,I can,t be any fairer than that can i,but please ring me on 01493651272 or 01493651487 I,ll explain it all to you

Dear YarmGirlz, I may have some of this wrong but I think you need to take some of the blame yourselves. Unlike other Richards Parties, didn't this one have all the info on the Flyer and was there not a large yellow "Smiley Face" on it ? This would indicate to most people the style of music you were likely to hear. Also !! Richard has run many types of gig's over the years, the most popular and busiest were the house, techno and hip-hop gig's. If you think that all his gigs have been Soul Doo's then that's just how you choose to remember them, but it's not the case. Anyway ! It good to try and test the water every now and then to see who's out there, sometimes it work's, sometime it dosn't AND £5 is nothing to go into a gig, people in Yarmouth have always winge'd about the price of gig's but truth be told you've had it too good for too long and Richard has always kept the price very low. Its a shame seeing that you have enjoyed so many of his gig's over the years (as have many) how easily you've embrassed the opportunity to have a pop publicly. Without Richard there would be no seen in Yarmouth...........

come on richard, you are fooling yourself if you think just a few people left the residence early last saturday,there were a lot of your regulars in the britannia pier bar all complaining about being charged £5 for a night of awful dance and rave music that only the youngsters and dj "dance "johnstone ,whoever he is? seemd to be enjoying-and under the richards party heading,if we wnated this kind of row we would have gone elsewhere,we support you because we thought we knew what to expect sorry richard,you are a decent guy but you should know what your once loyal supporters think about being misled, not only with the awful music played last saturday but also by the change of venue at the last minute if this is what to expect from future richards parties then good luck and we all hope your new crowd support you as much as the loyal funk soul crowd in GY have done for many years in the past

Ultimately most of is (even though the Anons don't act it) are into our 40's and events are as much social as about musical perfection (whatever that is as nobody is the same), can't say I have ever had a bad night out amongst good company even if musically it was not a challenge - and that is in no way a criticism, rather a busy dance floor and happy faces than an anorak discussion. And whilst the Anon criticism appears we all know that an Anon has never recommended 'their' event as the one to go to, so I fail to see what has ever been gained apart from the no doubt required 'wind up' .. there is no such thing as bad publicity is hardly a secret and regular events with regular numbers through the door are surviving to the venues satisfaction, rather 70-100 good punters than an unruly mob that's bigger and less controllable..... anywhoo, Treacle all-dayer then up to Luton on Saturday to celebrate my buffday amongst good company with a range of music from people that enjoy their music, are sociable and get away from their computers at times

Say what you like about SOUL IN THE CITY, because we had 230 happy punters, the night did'nt finish untill 5.45am and every left with a smile on their face, we had some young fit girls and some old folks like me, so what! if you find a club full of supper models it means they are 17 years old and the music will sound like 2 dustbins shagging, so go there then, as for the club being a shit hole you need to go spec savers or the barly lane nut house, but say what you like it won't loose me any sleep, we had a good number and this is a hobby that i enjoy and no one can take that way, personaly i thought it was a great night and the djs were superb.So roll on Spain now, hurry up and slag that off so when the punters get back they can laugh at the wankers on here that try to bring down events (not just mine) and fail because the people that go to events know the truth and if a event really is shit no one will go and it will close, SOUL IN THE CITY is still going strong in its 3 year now, so i am happy and if you are not because i do this event, TOUGH SHIT.

..(CNN) -- Soul singer and arranger Isaac Hayes, who won Grammy awards and an Oscar for the theme from the 1971 action film "Shaft," has died, sheriff's officials in Memphis, Tennessee, reported Sunday, August 10, 2008. Relatives found Hayes, 65, unconscious in his home next to a still-running treadmill, said Steve Schular, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department. Paramedics attempted to revive him and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m., the sheriff's department said. No foul play is suspected, the agency said in a written statement. Hayes was a longtime songwriter and arranger for Stax Records in Memphis, playing in the studio's backup band and crafting tunes for artists such as Otis Redding and Sam and Dave in the 1960s. He released his first solo album in 1967. In 1971, the theme from "Shaft" became a pop hit and won an Academy Award for best original theme song. Hello Stavros, Glad you posted what you did, we enjoyed great music and great company and stuning venue, but I'm afraid we sneaked off early to grab some thing to eat.Drinks prices horrendous, nearly 6 quid for a Peroni and amineral water
and the so called buffet was a joke. Poor waitresses had to resort to hiding the food under what looked like a large napkin as they were mobbed by hungry peeps the moment they got outside. Also was a little surprised that they did not let peeps use their loos, going to V in a couple of weeks and expect portaloos there but not at the Boatyard.
I feel they took advantage off people, if they can't deliver the goods they should not have charged so much for the ticket and hope they treat their punters a little more fairly drinks price wise in the future. We were going originally anyway but I bought our tickets at a charity alldayer so I do not begrudge our tickets as they helped a worthy cause.
