2008Just got this from friends in Chicago :- 'CLEVELAND -- Sean Levert, the younger brother of R&B singer Gerald Levert and son of Eddie Levert of the O'Jays, died late Sunday night. Levert, 39, died at 11:57 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital after being transported to the facility from the Cuyahoga County Jail. Sean Levert had gone to the jail infirmary complaining he was sick. The baby brother of late singer Gerald Levert was sentenced to 22 months in jail for failing to pay child support. It was in November that Sean Levert started singing again. He talked with NewsChannel5 about finishing a project -- bringing the group back together -- that his brother started. Gerald Levert died Nov. 10, 2006. He was found dead in his bed at his Newbury home. "Sometimes I'll have my moments, but right now I think I'm in a happier stage thinking about the good times we had together," Sean Levert had said. I remember the first time I met him in Summer of 89 when myself and friends were hanging out with Mark and Zoe, Mark was mixing and recording beats in his bedroom when suddenly the power tripped, Mark jumped up started cursing and flung the bedroom door open and shouted at the top of his lungs 'Dad what the F@%K are doing?' 10 minutes later Steve came up to apologise, while Mark was still fuming, it was a funny moment. The first time I heard Steve play was at the Berwick and then at my first Caister in 98; It's the first time I have ever heard seamless mixing on the soul scene, what a legend you are RIP x

Here's extract from an interview FROGGY gave 3 years ago: "Yeah. I went over [to New York] with the Mafia team. Chris Hill, Chris Brown, Sean French, Robbie Vincent, me. I’ve never experienced anything like it in all my life. It changed my life completely. I’d heard all about it, and I’d heard all about mixing techniques. I was always good at mixing, but not in the way they did it. I always had a good idea of beats and how you could weave music in and out. The first day meeting everyone which I found great. Then we got invited to the Paradise Garage. I never knew nothin’ about it. But Chris Hill said to me, when you see it, you’ll understand what I’ve been going on about, because he’d been going on about it for ages. So we left at midnight, we’d all had loads of champagne and everything else. And I’d never seen anything like it. Sound system was the most incredible I’d ever heard. The room was the most electrifyin’ I’d ever been in. The DJ was just… incredible. The tunes he played were quite fantastic. The two stations then were WBLS and WKTU and BLS was linked with Paradise Garage and was much more streety and WKTU was linked to Studio 54. I experienced this whole night, from twelve till seven listening to this jock and the lighting and the sound was just so incredible, I couldn’t believe it. The following evening we went to Studio 54 and experienced the big queue outside and being picked – we had special passes – and also the Richard Long sound system which was the same as the Garage one. The music was much more lighter, but just as entertaining and brilliant. Came back and decided, with all the information I’d got, I spoke to Richard Long quite a lot, who was fascinated by my interest in sound systems, made lots of drawings and notes and came back and got myself in a load of facking debt. I went out and borrowed every penny I could, bought a lorry and built a big system up. Went to see a mate of mine in Southend and he built these big bins for me and I took two guys on full time. We fitted it into the Royalty every week and people used to come for miles. By this time, I’d had my mixer modified and redesigned. In terms of the sound, what were you using exactly? When I was over there, I was one of the few people that Richard Long let up to see what was in the Paradise Garage. He used Thorens decks at the time and they were mounted up from a gimbal in the ceiling. When I had a look at one, they were just too slow for the work I was used to. I needed a quicker start. All the DJs who were doing blend mixing were using the Technics 1200 Mk I which to my horror, I brought two back from New York and I just couldn’t work with them. I practised on them for two months, then I went to play up north at the Warehouse In Leeds? Yeah, he had guys like Greg Wilson playing up there. When I went up there to play, I fluffed it, couldn’t use them; they were too slow, so I flogged them. Anyway, I went over to New York and I’d heard about a new version of the 1200 that they had out, the Mk2, when I went over and played on them, I did a little guest spot, the deck was quick it had a hi torque motor in it. That changed the whole industry. I bought two back with me."

at 18:8:29 Saturday March 29 2008My overriding memory of first exposure to Froggy and his talent was at Caister some time around 95-ish, standing with a ton of mates at the back of room, all drinking and being merry, then a big old flip-flap started down the front with a build up for something special but not actually saying any names. One particular mate stands stock still, head cocked,listening. Then suddenly she smashes her plastic glass down on the table, the drink rebounds straight out of the glass, hits her smack in the eye, she calmly rubs it out of her eye and says "feck me, it's gonna be Froggy", then launches herself down the front of the room. All of sudden, I'm standing totally and completely alone. Not one person near me. Every single person around me, had just done exactly the same as Kate. Gone to watch the man do his work, and do it well!! Being a soul/Caister/weekender newbie, I didn't get the fuss at the time, But I did, over time. And I'm proper glad I did. I'm gutted he won't be at Caister again, as regardless what you think of any event he played at, stacking a room, wall-to-wall, is a talent some of us can only dream of. Ta-da Frog. Mark at 16:54:13 Saturday March 29 2008I got to know the frog well over the past 5 years on a proffesional level and as a friend. The last time he played on JSR was @ our BBQ last summer and had every dj and listener that was here in total silence as we watched him mix one track after another on very basic studio turntables. During mine and frosties radio shows Steve would often join us and frost would pass him tracks to mix that Frostie thought would be impossible to mix but frog would listen and say " your having a fucking laugh " and the put the two miss matched tracks together a pure genious. He will be sadly missed by everyone he touched and the dj's old and new he guided including myself. RIP Steve

2008I'm gutted, what can i say i never got to see Frog play in his prime. I only got to hear him for the first time when he came back to caister but through frostie i got to know him as a person rather than the DJ legend he was. i have never met somebody who had such a talent be so humble, he never really spoke about specific records but his love for music in general, he never dropped names in order to impress. he once threw into a conversation that he spent a two weeks in a flat with marvin Gaye when pressed about it by the people in the room he just said f off. he was like a child playing pranks all the time and the man made me cry with laughter when i was in his company. i'm a better person for knowing him. i'm glad i met the legendary DJ but the best thing i'm proud of is that he was my mate

Over the past year or two I have been privileged to have got to know Frog the DJ and play alongside him on numerous occasions, including his last gig on Sunday at Bellini’s. It would be hard to express how sad I feel at the loss of such a great DJ but more importantly the man behind the performer, he has taught me so much about spinning tunes, but so much more about honesty and above all the most humble person I have met in the ‘Soul World’. I have just spoken to John who is running the night in Canvey tonight and he has confirmed that the night is free to all, so if anyone wanted to come along and be in the company of others who loved and respected him too, then this is one of the places to be. But wherever you are tonight, could I invite you to put any differences aside and raise a glass for the like of which we will never see again. God Bless

Sad, sad news about Froggy. I was a regular at the classic lford Town Hall back in the days with the likes of Kelvin 'Putt' Painter Richie C and Andy Ward. When I first heard Clyde Alexander on THAT system in 79/80, I knew life would never be the same again. Frog, you inspired a generation of clubbers.

very gutted today! Such a shame we have lost a man who inspired many including myself with his love of music and most importantly the art of Dj'ing. Not afraid to experiment musically and his energy when Djing was infectious and im sure all will remember the first time they heard a frog set. He often recounted storys of his trips stateside meeting Larry Levan at Paradise Garage, which i never got bored of hearing! I was priviliged to have Dj'd alongside froggy on many occassions, Berwick Manor, Zens, Opening Night at the Rex, Liquid Bar, his 50th Birthday, all of them memorable because of the frog. When Sarah and I first Dj'd at Caister back in 97, Frog stood in the wings on that main stage giving us encouragement which meant so much. When Sarah lost her life later that year Froggy did a tribute set at the following caister and gave up his time to help raise money for charity in her name. Im sure they'll be a party upstairs ready and waiting, and whoever is on the decks after froggy will get the hump resetting all the levels! My thoughts are with his family, and also Frostie who im sure will be feeling it right now

I used to go and see Froggy every Monday night at Ilford Town Hall, it was the first time I heard "Crystal Glass" by Crystal World and spent day's trying to track it down. It was always very funny at Caister back in the day when Froggy had his own sound system.He would come on, turn a few knob's here & there and the system would blow you away and suddenly sound ten-times better. We were all very young then, and I know things have changed a great deal but we had never seen anyone mix before, I know people in the states did it before him but we didn't know that, and to us he was the first and the best. I have some great memories of Froggy, as a punter and Dj'ing with him and everytime I hear a Teena Marie track I know he's on the decks, and that's the way it will always stay. "Long Live Froggy"

My memories of the Frog like many of us, would have started with the golden era of the Royalty in Southgate and extended to the early Caister Weekenders when Showstopper Promotions with Adrian Webb were taking care of business. For those of us that travelled far and wide to hear him mix and play on THAT sound system will have many happy memories to hold and keep. He was a one of a kind craftsmen, a pioneer in his field. A man who truly cared about the art of how music actually sounded having spent time at the Garage with Larry Levan. I wish our paths had crossed more than they did. I write this with a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat. Froggy was one of the true pioneers of the breaking down musical and race boundaries in the UK. He did so much for the music we all love. It was he who was the instigator with Technics of the 1200 turntables. He was also one of the few UK DJs in the UK with the turntable skills to match any American DJ. Froggy up there on the turntables in heaven, with my other good friend Swing, you two must be throwing down some tunes and it must be some party. Love ya both forever Biggs. My Brother had an operation the other week to remove the tumour from his brian, it is second operation in 4 years. My sister in law had breast cancer which has spread to her bones. Great but a little ''limp''
, when
i was up visiting my family in scotland i chucked a favourite stick for my dads
dog a bit too far & it went over a high wall, SAM my dads dog managed to jump
it but came back with a larger stick, so i climbed the wall to get the favourite
one back, only to find a woman trying to fit it over her 'knee',as i wrestled
her for it, i got chased by a load of 'stumpy' security guards who 'shoe'd'
me off, i 'hopped' it outa there fast, and SAM 'legged' it with the stick only
to find myself 'knee' deep in a lake,i scambled to a dingy only to find no paddles,
so i improvised with a false 'leg' & a 'stick, as you can imagine with one being
thicker than the other i went round in circles, but it didn,t matter as the
woman was going round in circles aswell as costantly falling down,i threw some
twigs for her & told her to 'FETCH' just for a laugh, i made my escape to the
other side & hid in the 'Heather' with SAM untill darkness, i 'kneed'nt' have
worried really because my uncle owns the local 'WOODMILLS' he sold them off
a year later to ,PAUL McCARKNEE' who employed the staff to make 1 legged manikins
for KAREN 'MILL'EN', i made my way back to the car & as i put the radio on 'WOOD'
you believe it 'the song playing was IF YOU 'KNEED' ME NOW, great story for
dinner parties,looking back it was hilarious,

Personally, I think it's prosthetic. News reports have confirmed that Paul McCartney
has separated from his wife Heather Mills-McCartney. Mrs Mills-McCartney is
said to be distraught over the split. "He has been my crutch for so long!" She
said in an earlier briefing, "I have no idea why this has happened, I'm really
stumped" "She's running around in circles", according to a close friend, "she
will need all the support she can get. It's not like its easy to walk out on
a relationship like this" After his break up with Heather, Paul was asked if
he would ever consider going down on one knee again. Paul said he would prefer
it if we called her Heather. It is not known whether a pre-nuptial agreement
was signed prior to the marriage. Paul McCartney is one of the richest men in
the world, and if an agreement has been signed it is believed that she won't
have a leg to stand on. Rumours abound over the split which have suggested that
infidelity may have been the cause. "She's terrible" a source stated, "always
trying to get her leg over". Another source has suggested that her battle with
alcoholism was the cause. "Macca couldn't handle it anymore" a friend said,
"he would get home at night and find her legless" Many have attributed this
to a problem which started with the present that Paul bought her prior to the

He played the role of the jovial naval captain, who was aimed at children, from 1967 until 1998. The star, who was a resident of actors' retirement home Brinsworth House in Middlesex, passed away on Sunday. He also appeared in the original Broadway production of Sandy Wilson's The Boy Friend. The Captain Birds Eye character has outlasted the likes of the Milky Bar Kid and McDonalds' Ronald McDonald. In 1971 an obituary for the Birds Eye character appeared in the Times newspaper after it was decided to retire him. However, that was only temporary and he returned to TV screens three years later. Wow what a great night at “ INDUSTRY” even if I say so myself (oops I just did), fantastic tunes from DJs LITTLE STEVIE, TONY FERNANDEZ, JIM THE THONG, respect guys, so that will be the line up from now on, the old skool soul played made the vibe electric, so its back to SOUL IN THE CITY next month on the 19th due to popular demand. It was a 100% soul crowd, who were really up for a party, talking of which great after party CHEVVY and STEVIE even more good tune to 8am, had to call it a day as I am not as young as I was (ok old bastard then) so big thanks to every one that attended INDUSTRY and those of you who will in the future , plus from now on members are just £5 all night. 2008absoloutly brilliant night yesterday at unda the bridge for soulvillage warm up. the two floored venue held a good atmosphere, the venue was packed and jumping.
